Getting sexy with it: why dressing sexy doesn’t make you any less steampunk

We’ve all seen the backlash some women get for wearing a racy steampunk costume : people try to call them out for “faking” or not being “steampunk enough” (whatever that means), but we don’t buy that.  Embracing your sexy side doesn’t stop your from being steampunk.  Time and again, people reiterate that steampunk has no real rules, just a set of loose guidelines. So if dressing sexy is what you enjoy, then don’t let anyone say it’s not steampunk. To start with, being racy with your steampunk outfit doesn’t mean you’re limited to burlesque characters or ladies of the night. Sexy adventurers, pilots and assassins are all great options. Get creative with the costumes by using chaps or cropped tops to show some skin, while still having plenty of fabric to attach chains, bandoliers or other accessories to.
