The adult way to wear purple

Purple has recently come back into fashion and is being seen everywhere from lilac blazers to amethyst jewelry. This rich, beautiful color is often relegated to children’s clothing, but is back in a big way for adults. If you want to incorporate purple into your wardrobe as an adult, consider these following tips.

Match the shade to the season
Purple comes in every shade from pale lilac to rich mulberry, but depending on the season some of these shades can seem off putting. The spring sweetness of lavender will look jarring in the cold months of winter, while rich eggplant will seem cloying in the first warm days of spring. Because of this, try to match the richer, darker tones to the cool months of winter and the paler, subtler shades to spring and summer.

Wear it in moderation
Purple is a strong, statement color and like any statement color, it should be worn in moderation. Wearing too much at once can be a disaster and make a statement outfit go from stylish to overbearing very quickly.

Look for it in unique pieces
While a purple top is great, consider looking for the color in a unique showpiece, like a purse, or a purple corset. Purple is a surprisingly popular color in lingerie, so you won’t be too hard pressed to find a lovely purple corset in whatever style suits you best.

Don’t mix it
Beware of mixing colors like red and purple. While beautiful colors on their own, together they can produce what is called chromatic aberration and cause eyestrain and even headaches. This is because purple and red are on different ends of the color spectrum and the dissimilar wavelengths will cause the eyes to work overtime as they try to register both colors at once.
